Outlook 2007 Pst Repair
The first step you should take when trying to do an Outlook 2007 PST repair is to make a backup of the file that you will be trying to repair. Otherwise you can risk actually doing more damage to your PST files. Next, you should give the free .pst file repair tool that comes with Outlook a try. While it doesn't fix everything, it doesn't cost anything to use and can fix a lot of PST file corruption problems. Look for a file called scanpst.exe. It should be in the C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystem Mapi1033 directory on most computers. Should this not be the case on your computer, you can simply do a system search for scanpst.exe to locate it on your drive. If the free tool cannot fix the problems that you are having, it will be necessary to use a more powerful repair software.
This type of software will delete anything that it doesn't recognize, and will help to prepare the header for the file. Make sure you have done a backup before running the program in case something gets deleted that you didn't want to have deleted. In order to fix a corrupt PST file, you will need to open the scanpst.exe file. If you are not sure where it is you can always do a search to locate it without too much trouble. Usually if the file is not located in the 1033 file it is located at C:UsersUserNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook. Sometimes error messages occur saying that the application wasn't found because it is in the incorrect folder. Using this tool can help you to repair your PST files in just a few steps. Make sure that Outlook is not open. Then click the Start button and select My Computer, then Program Files, and then Common Files. Choose System, then MSMAPI and then click to open the 1033 file. Locate the scanpst.exe file and click on it to open it.
Once you have opened the scanpst.exe file you will need to find the file that needs to be repaired. To accomplish this you will need to once again go to My Computer, select the C: drive, then choose Documents and Settings. Choose your username, open that file and select Local Settings. Sometimes Local Settings is under Hidden Files, so you need to open the Tools menu and select Folder Options and then View. Choose Show Hidden Files and Folders and click on OK. Windows Vista and Windows 7 have a differnet file structure, so you will need to go to C:Users%username%AppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook. Select Outlook and you should be able to locate the .pst file for OutlookAfter you have found the file you need to put it into the Outlook 2007 PST repair tool's box and click on Start. Before running the scan you should always click on the box to make a backup of the file. After the scan you will be shown any errors that were found and you can just click on them to fix them when the program prompts you.
Using this tool should help you to make any necessary Outlook 2007 PST repairs. If you get an error code that says "fatalError: 800400900" that means that you will need to try something different because your files are larger than the 2GB maximum.
